Our Investigation Guidelines and Methods

Merced County Paranormal Investigators is committed to thoroughly and objectively investigating claims of paranormal activity and providing alternative explanations. To this end we employ a variety of equipment and techniques coupled with experience and knowledge to achieve our goal and provide the client with answers.
To better explain what we do and to give an idea as to what can be expected when working with M.C.P.I. the following investigation guidelines are provided. However, if any further information is needed or if there are any questions on any of the investigation steps, feel free to ask.
All information concerning an investigation, including names and locations, are kept strictly confidential.
Steps involved:
Step One - Evaluation: After initial contact with M.C.P.I. we attempt to visit the location and meet the client before committing to an investigation so that we can judge how best to proceed and to gather information.
Step Two - Research: Once we have committed to an investigation we will try to find out as much background information on the location as possible through public records. This is to help us get some history on the location and possibly aid in debunking claims or providing answers.
Step Three - Investigation: An investigation is scheduled at a time most convenient for the client. This should generally be late night into early morning due to the fact that there is usually less ambient noise and normal activity that could complicate our work. The length of an investigation will vary depending on location but at least 6 hours should be made available. Our investigation technique may vary depending on the needs of the location but will generally always include gathering information via digital audio and video recording devices as well as taking EMF (electro-magnetic field) and temperature readings.
Step Four - Review: After the investigation is complete team members review everything we gathered, thoroughly looking for anything out of the ordinary and attempting to attach a rational explanation to anything found.
Step Five - Presentation: Members of M.C.P.I. will meet with the client to discuss the outcome of the investigation and offer any insight into the activity that we are able to, including possible explanations and evidence that could not be dismissed.
This is a basic guideline of how M.C.P.I. approaches investigations, however each case is different and we remain flexible to altering our procedures to best serve the client. We are here to help.
